For Katie

Editor's Note:This memorial was part of the original VWworld site, and as long as I have a VW site I will always keep a memorial for Katie. It was originally posted on December 29th, 1999. The road trip that Katie took with her dad took place in the summer of 1999.

Katie and Mitch Dallas, TX May 28,1999

We had the opportunity to meet Katie Perry when she and her father Mitch embarked on a road trip across the US and Canada in Mitch's New Beetle this past summer. Mitch is a member of the New Beetle discussion list, and when they made their first stop in Dallas several of us on the list from the Dallas area met them for dinner. It was the first time we met and an evening I will long remember. Katie was a lively young lady who brightened the room. There was an incident that night with a parking attendant who was somewhat reckless with the patrons cars.... Gil(my husband) decided to speak up and Katie was right there to back him up. We got a kick out of that and really admired her spirit, I wished that I had that kind of spirit!

Even though our meeting was brief I felt like I knew her. I just learned today that Katie was killed in a car accident on Christmas day. The news broke my heart. I can't even begin to imagine what Mitch and his family are going through. I wanted to post this memorial here because our paths crossed due to the love of Volkswagens. Katie had just gotten a silver New Beetle a few months ago and shared an unforgettable trip with her dad in his New Beetle. It was a journey that brought them closer together and allowed many members of the New Beetle list around the US and Canada to have a chance to meet Katie.
